Welcome

Alexander Busby the Director of Bands at Columbus High School and Columbus Junior High School in Columbus, Texas. Most recently he was named a quarterfinalist for the 2023 Grammy Music Educator award (selected as one of 207 out of over 1,500 submissions). In August of this year his article titled "Growing Music One Project at a Time” was published in Teaching Music, a publication by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). Mr. Busby and “Project Grow Music” received the 2022 FMEA Exemplary Model Project Award at the 2022 Florida Music Educators Association Professional Development conference in Tampa Bay, FL.
 
Before joining the staff at CHS Mr. Busby was the Associate Band Director at Oviedo High School in Oviedo, Florida for two years. During his time at Oviedo High School he was named Teacher of the Week, was awarded multiple grants from The Foundation at SCPS, Grants for Great Ideas, worked to restructure the band program by adding a third large performing ensemble and was part of the 2021-2021 OHS Leadership Academy Cohort. Mr. Busby directed the Director of the Symphonic and Concert Bands, taught Group Keyboard/Music History and assisted with all aspects of the competitive 5A Marching Lions and concert band program. During his time at OHS the marching band competed in marching band festivals, MPA, Bands of America regionals and Florida Marching Band Championships.​​
 
Prior to his appointment at OHS, Mr. Busby taught woodwind methods and applied flute and saxophone as part of his graduate teaching assistantship at East Carolina University. Mr. Busby has been published in the national professional instrumental magazines Flute Talk and The Flute View. As a national and international performer, he has performed throughout the states of Texas, North Carolina and Florida as a freelance musician, as well as in concert halls in Shanghai and Suzhou, China and Taipei, Taiwan. Mr. Busby has participated in extended programs of study at the University of Taipei (Taiwan) and New York University Steinhardt School of Music.​Mr. Busby received the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, magna cum laude, from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the Master of Music degree is Multiple Woodwind Performance from East Carolina University.
